IGP cancels promotions of 1,200 cops

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Fayyaz Ahmad Leghari has cancelled promotions of nearly 1,200 policemen in entire province. The sources said that the IGP cancelled the promotions on the directives of the court. They further said that all these policemen were promoted under the article 263/2010 in their own pay scale.About 500 policemen out of 1,200 belong to Karachi. These policemen were promoted to the posts of head constables, sub inspectors and inspectors since 2010 to date. The matter was in the court as some senior police officials having reservations had filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, declaring the promotions as illegal. The affected policemen have expressed anger over the cancellation of their promotion orders and demanded that they should be stayed on their present ranks.

Hepatitis tests: Tests for hepatitis B and C of about 94,000 policemen have already been completed, while efforts are under way to complete the screening of remaining personnel, a high-level meeting of police officers was told here on Sunday’ ppi adds.The meeting, presided over by Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Laghari, was attended by Capital City Police Officer Karachi Saud Mirza, Deputy Inspector Generals of various headquarters, Medical Superintendents of police hospitals, Senior Superintendent Police officers and commandants of police training colleges.Additional Inspector General Welfare Ali Sher Jakhrani told the meeting that the last date for screening of cops for hepatitis was May 30, 2011. Jakhrani said screening of about 94,000 police officers and cops had been achieved, while the remaining officials were either on training or leave. IGP asked that steps should be taken to get blood samples of remaining cops so that the target of 100 percent screening could be achieved. – Dailytimes
