CM For Disaster Management Preparedness

LAHORE: In view of the recent rains and floods, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the divisional commissioners and district administrations to monitor the flow of water in rivers and water channels round the clock and immediately inform the institutions concerned in case of any emergent situation.

In a statement issued on Monday, the CM said that the institutions concerned should maintain a close contact with each other to control any untoward situation arising out of rains and potential floods, and finalise their preparations and arrangements in this regard.

Shahbaz said that he was standing with the flood-affected people in the hour of trial and would make all-out efforts for their permanent rehabilitation. He said that the elected representatives should take necessary measures with the help of district administration in their respective areas to meet any situation caused by rains and possible floods. He further said that the divisional commissioners, district administration and institutions concerned should remain fully alert to cope with any emergency.

He said that people had given a historic mandate to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in the general election; therefore, it was the duty of the elected representatives to remain with the masses “in these testing times and work with the administration for resolving the problems” of the victims.

He said that relief activities had immediately been started in Rajanpur, Mianwali and Sialkot areas, which had been badly affected by floods, and that rehabilitation of the calamity-hit people was in full swing. He said that no effort would be spared for the rehabilitation of flood-hit people and their early return to their homes. He said that losses of flood victims would be compensated in the light of the survey to be carried out in the flood-hit areas.

He warned that no laxity or negligence would be tolerated in the relief and rehabilitation activities for the flood victims. He said that the government was carrying out relief activities for the flood-hit people even more vigorously than the previous years. He said that constant monitoring of the protective spurs of rivers and canals should be ensured and all arrangements be completed for meeting any emergent situation. He said that calamity-stricken people should not feel unattended, as the government was standing with them and would ensure their complete rehabilitation. – dailytimes
