Four judges’ offices vacant in SC

Supreme CourtISLAMABAD: Four constitutional offices of judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan are lying vacant after retirement of country’s top adjudicators.

Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed had retired on June 1, Justice Javed Iqbal on August 1, Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui on October 13 and Ad-hoc judge Justice Ghulam Rabbani on Oct 19, while Justice Muhammad Sair Ali would be the other Judge to lay down his black robes on December 11 this year.The Judicial Commission of Pakistan, which has become functional after the 18th Constitutional Amendment is expected to take up the elevation issue of probables among the five High Courts as Judges of the apex Court to complete the constitutional strength. The Commission then will send its recommendation to the Parliamentary Committee for further consideration.

The required constitutional strength of 17-Judges has to be completed as the apex Court will take up important constitutional issues pending before it. Among the retired Judges Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui belonged to Punjab, Justice retired Javed Iqbal and Justice retired Raja Fayyaz Ahmed were from Balochistan whereas Justice Ghulam Rabbani hailed from the province of Sindh.

Currently CJP Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Ch (Balochistan), Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan (KPK), Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jillani (Punjab),Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk (KPK), Justice Muhammad Sair Ali (Punjab), Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja (Punjab), Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali (Sindh), Justice Khilji Arif Hussain (Sindh), Justice Tariq Parvez Khan (KPK), Justice Mian Saqib Nisar (Punjab), Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa (Punjab), Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany (Sindh) and Justice Amir Hani Muslim (Sindh) are functioning in the apex court according to official record of the Supreme Court. – Nation
