KARACHI: Anti Extremist Cell (AEC) and Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the Crime Investigation Department (CI D) on Monday claimed to have arrested a notorious criminal involved in around 100 target killings in city.A team, headed by SP Umar Shahid and SP Chaudhry Aslam on a tip-off, raided a place near Eidgah ground at New Karachi Sector 5-D and arrested a notorious criminal namely Ajmal alias Shahzad alias Pahari. The police also recovered a huge cache of weapons on his information.
CID officials said the accused Ajmal, who belonged to a political party, was also arrested in 2000 for his alleged involvement in 53 murders and was released in 2005. They further said that he had admitted, during the initial course of investigation, that he killed 58 persons after his release from jail, including MPA Zohair Akram Nadeem, DSP Shamim, ASI Arif Shah, Advocate Iqbal, 14 activists of the MQM-H in Pak Colony, 12 persons in Orangi Town and six persons in Ranchore Line.
They further claimed that the accused Ajmal, who was involved in several other heinous offences including attacks on Sindh Secretariat building and Baitul Hamza, kidnapping for ransom and extortion was also patronising several land mafias and land grabbers.They said that the department had also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions including two Kalashnikovs, two TT pistols, four hand grenades, two repeaters, one 8mm rifle, three Tripple-2 rifles, one stain-gun and 200 rounds on his information and added that the department in this connection had initiated further investigation to nab his other accomplices. – Dailytimes
