ISLAMABAD: Shah Jehan advocate has filed a petition in the Election Commission of Pakistan praying to stop formation of any illegal government in the province of Punjab with the support of members who had defected their party till the decision of the petition. The petitioner also prayed to bar the Governor Punjab from taking oath to the expected new cabinet in the province till the decision of the petition.The Members who were elected on tickets of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) but joined Pakistan Muslim League (N) as a unification group, PML Chief (N) Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Governor Punjab, Chief Minister of Punjab, President PML (Q) and General (Retd) Pervez Musharaf have been made respondents in the petition.In his petition, the petitioner said that Pakistan is a democratic country and government must follow the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He said the government of PML (N), headed by Mian Shabaz Sharif had violated the principles of democracy.
The move of PML-Q MPAs who joined the political platform of PML (N) without seeking re-election, is totally against the spirit of the Constitution, he added.He said it is therefore prayed that Constitutional Petition, may kindly be entertained in the larger national interest and issue a direction to stop all respondents, not to take part in this illegal course of forming illegal government of Punjab as it is against the Constitution and Rules of Election Commission of Pakistan.He prayed that “the respondent No 3 the Honorable Governor Punjab, may be directed not to hold oath taking ceremony, till the decision of this Petition and any other relief – APP
