LONDON: The week-long Pakistan week organised by Pakistan Society at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science began at the LSE campus on Monday with the traditional ‘bhangra’ run which attracted a large crowd including tourists.The Pakistani students enrolled in LSE wearing traditional ‘shalwar kameez’ and colourful ‘dhotis’ danced to the tune of ‘dholak’ at Houghton Street and were joined in the fun by other international students studying in the institution.In the afternoon, there was the ‘biryani’ competition with the winner being adjudged on the basis of highest number of plates of aromatic rice consumed. Later in the evening, a ‘qawali’ programme was held.LSE Student Union Pakistan Week is the first ever Pakistan oriented series of student events in the UK which has now become one of the biggest South Asian events in the UK.Apart from opening day proceedings, the Society has drawn up a number of events from the exclusive screening of ‘Slackistan’ by director Hammad Khan to talks on current affairs by journalist Hamid Mir and senior politician Ahsan Iqbal.The week will culminate when Pakistan’s iconic band ‘Strings’ perform live in concert on February 25 – APP
