LAHORE: About twelve people, including two women, were killed in different incidents across the provincial metropolis during the last two days.In the first incident, a 25-year-old youth was gunned down by his business partner over some monetary dispute in the jurisdiction of Wahdat Road Police. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Fahad, a resident of Ferozpur Road. Police officials said that the victim ran a printing press in the Muslim Town area with his partner Rashid Butt, who had been asking Fahad for money, while the latter continuously refused to give him any. On the day of the incident, Butt again asked for money and on Fahad’s refusal, he got infuriated, took out his pistol and shot him. Butt escaped from the scene after the killing. Fahad was taken to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. Police has registered a murder case against Butt on the compliant of the deceased’s father, however, no report of his arrest has yet been received. In the second incident, crossfire between two parties in Misri Shah area claimed the life of a passerby, who was later identified as Afrahim. Police said that Afzal, Faisal, Rehan, Atif and their accomplices exchanged fire with member of a Gujjar group over a minor issue. The victim accidentally came under the firing range and died on the spot. Later, the locals of the area blocked the road and burnt tires in protest. Police handed over the body to the family after postmortem.In another firing incident, a 35-year-old passerby was shot dead when six persons opened indiscriminate fire in Nawankot area. The deceased was identified as Abbas.Police said that a youth, Nabeel, contacted a girl through his friend Suleman’s cell phone. Later, Suleman received a call from that same number, the caller inquiring about his whereabouts. Consequently, six persons approached Suleman and started beating him up. The attackers opened fire when some passerby’s tried to intervene, as a result of which Abbas received a fatal bullet wound and died on the spot.Suicide: Another unfortunate incident was when a 45-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping into a water pond situated in the Iqbal Park in the limits of Lorri Adda. Police said that the deceased, still to be identified, had committed suicide in the wee hours of Wednesday. The body was spotted the next day by some locals, who consequently called the police. Police shifted the body to the city morgue for autopsy, and has been searching for the victim’s family since. In another incident, a mother of five was burnt alive while her three children received serious burns in the area of Harbanspura. The deceased was identified as Safia Bibi, wife of Rashid Khan of Fateh Garh. Police said that the accused Rashid Khan married another woman, almost four months back, and stopped supporting his family financially. The victim’s brother Aslam accused his brother-in-law of the killing with the aid of his relative Aziz Khan.
Separately, a 21-year-old youth was knocked down by a speeding bus, owned by the Lahore College for Woman University in the jurisdiction of Mughalpura police. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Afzal, a resident of Link Road Shalamar. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Locals caught the driver and later handed him over to police, which registered a case against the driver of the bus and handed over the victim’s body to his family.Similarly, a 70-year-old man was crushed to death by a speeding train in the jurisdiction of Misri Shah police. The deceased was identified as Shahzad, a resident of Misri Shah. Police said that the victim was heading back to home after offering prayer and was trying to cross the railway lines near the area of Farooq Gunj when the train hit him. Shahzad sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Police handed over the body to his family after the completion of legal formalities.Another man was killed by a speeding truck in the area of Chung. The deceased was identified as Maqsood Ahmad of Shahdara. Also, a speeding tractor in Kahna area killed a 40-year-old Tufail, who was on a motorbike.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man, Khadam, of Lajpat Road, Shahdara, was found dead near the area of Data Darbar. In an incident of electrocution, a 35-year-old WAPDA lineman of Bilal Gunj sub division was electrocuted in the area of Lower Mall. Police said that Rizwan was working on high voltage lines when he received electric shock and died on the spot. The deceased hailed from Sanda.A 35-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the precincts of Chung police. Police said that the deceased, still to be identified, was a drug addict and died due to excessive usage of drugs. Some locals spotted the body lying beside a road and informed the police. After making several announcements in the local mosques questioning the deceased’s identity, police shifted the body to the city morgue.In another crime incident, a five-year-old abducted child was recovered and his kidnappers were arrested by Misri Shah police. The abducted child was identified as Hussnain Ahmed, son of Ashiq Hussain of Unchi Khankah. Police officials said that they arrested the two kidnappers from Misri Shah area and recovered the abducted child safely. The kidnapers identified as Qasim and Abdul Qadir had kidnapped Hussnain while he was playing in front of his house a few days ago. After one day, the child’s family received a call from the kidnappers who demanded Rs 5 lakhs for his release. The family informed the police which traced the kidnappers through their mobile numbers and eventually arrested them – Dailytimes
