When Yash Raj hosted its first non-Bollywood shaadi, it was no less than the grand YRF weddings we see in their films!
The name ‘Yash Raj Productions’ is equivalent to grand Punjabi weddings. Chandni, Silsila, Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge…the list is endless. After witnessing the grandeur of Punjabi shaadi onscreen it was for the first time that the production house hosted a non-Bollywood wedding, in true YRF style as a part of their forthcoming film Band Baaja Baarat’s promotion. Talk about innovative film promotional activities! The bride and groom were the winners of a contest organized by the BBB team. The best couple would get a real shaadi organized by the film’s team. Winners were Manpreet and Mandeep who hailed from Nagpur. The couple revealed, “We never thought we’d get married amidst film actors and that out wedding would be taken care of by the country’s biggest production house!”
Relatives of the couple were specially brought down to Mumbai. One of the relatives revealed, “The couple got married in a Gurudwara and Anushka and Ranveer personally attended all the wedding rituals. From dress fittings and dance rehearsals to Mehndi ceremony…they indeed planned everything.
Ranveer even performed live for the audience as he danced on the foot tapping track of his film ‘Ainvayi Ainvayi’. Singer Raageshwari along with Mauj Punjab Di (a Punjabi music and dance troupe) sang all the hit Punjabi dance numbers. The highlight of the evening was when she sung Shakira’s Waka Waka on Punjabi beats with some Bhangra!
The couples who faired second and third in the contest won a honeymoon trip to Switzerland and Kerala respectively.
Overall, a real wedding which doubled up as a promotional activity for the film is one of the rarest thing to have happened to Bollywood where press, family members and actors got together as Baaratis – TimesofIndia
