U.S. President Barack Obama showed his comedic side at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington Saturday – mostly at the expense of billionaire businessman Donald Trump. Trump, who had joined those who questioned whether Mr. Obama had been born in the United States and was even eligible to be president, was among the hundreds of journalists and celebrities in attendance. The president used much of his speech to mock several potential Republican presidential challengers. Mr. Obama said Trump had displayed his presidential qualifications with his decisions on his “Celebrity Apprentice” game show. The dinner’s professional entertainer, Seth Meyers of “Saturday Night Live” also focused on Trump, who did not appear greatly amused.

Mr. Obama closed his address on a serious note, thanking U.S. troops serving overseas and praising journalists who risk their lives for what he called “the simple idea that no one should be silenced, and everyone deserves to know the truth.” The White House Correspondents’ Association was founded to promote the interests of reporters and correspondents assigned to cover the White House. The dinner was first held 92 years ago. Some of the money raised by the event helps to fund journalism scholarships for college students. – Yahoo News
