Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza on Saturday said the government was committed to provide relief to the poor of the society and devised stringent long-term policies to alleviate poverty from the country.She said the “Establishment of Benazir Income Support Program by the government was a pragmatic step to help the poor”. She said that in her message on International Day for Eradication of Poverty being commemorated throughout the globe on 17th October.The Speaker said that persistent increase in the poverty in the under developed countries has reached an alarming situation, therefore, the steep disparity between rich and the poor should be addressed on war footing.
She called upon the world communities to join hands to face the challenges and take action to reinvigorate the momentum to eradicate poverty and inequality from the world as agreed in the protocol signed in year 2000 under Millennium Development Goals.
“We should unite in our efforts to send an even louder message to the decision markers and the governments to see action with regards to their commitment” she stressed.
Lauding the decision of the government to launch Benazir Income Support Program, the Speaker said it was vision of the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto to eradicate poverty from Pakistan.
She stressed for devising more pro-poor policies to fully achieve the vision of Shaheed Leaders.
She reiterated the government’s strong resolve to realize the vision of Shaheed Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto of attaining a democratic, strong and prosperous Pakistan.
