BEIJING: The death toll from a 6.6-magnitude quake that struck southwest China’s Sichuan province on Saturday has risen to 72, with 600 injured, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
The shallow earthquake struck just after 8:00 am at a depth of 12 kilometres, destroying buildings and setting off landslides, with rescue teams dispatched to the area. – Dawn
