QUETTA: A complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed in Balochistan on Sunday, marking the sixth death anniversary of Akbar Bugti who was murdered on this day in 2006 along with 70 of his associates in an armed clash with the security forces.

The main strike call was given by the Baloch Republican Party (BRP) and supported by the Balochistan National Party (BNP), National Party (NP), Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP-Hali), Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP-Talal), Baloch National Front (BNF), Baloch National Voice (BNV), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and trade unions.

The day remained relatively peaceful and no untoward incident was reported. All major shopping centres, commercial establishments, businesses and other public places remained closed due to the strike. Traffic remained thin on the roads. Police and FC personnel were deployed at all entry and exit points of the provincial capital. All roads leading to Sindh and Punjab remained shut for all kinds of traffic.

The strike was also observed in Mastung, Kalat, Mongechar, Surab, Khuzdar, Nal, Wadh, Mashkey, Kharan, Naushki, Dalbandin, Nokkundi, Turbat, Pasni, Gwadar, Jiwani, Ormara, Panjgur, Mand, Tump, Awaran, Hub, Bolan, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Sibi other parts of the province. – Dailytimes
