MUMBAI: Veteran Bollywood superstar, Rajesh Khanna died in Mumbai on Wednesday, Media reported.
Khanna was suffering from kidney ailments and was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital last week. However, was later discharged and died at his Mumbai residence at the age of 69.Khanna was born on December 29 1942 and made his debut in 1966 with Aakhri Khat. He was one of the very few Indian actors to have starred in 15 consecutive solo super hits between 1962 and 72.
Rajesh Khanna was popularly known as Kaka (uncle) and was one of the highest paid actors of his time. He ruled the Indian cinema during the 1970s by starring in timeless melodies. “Mere Sapnon Ki Rani”, Kora Kagaz Tha, “Pyar Deewana Hota Hai”, “Yeh Shaam Mastani” and “Zindagi Ek Safar” are a few hits of his career.Khanna is survived by his former wife Dimple Kapadia and two daughters, Rinke and Twinkle Khanna. – Dawn
