SIC presents 12-point Karachi peace agenda

KARACHI: Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has presented 12-point agenda to eliminate target killings and restore peace in Karachi.SIC Chief Sahabzada Abualkhair while holding a press conference on Sunday at a private hotel suggested that Prime Minister Gilani should called all parties conference (APC) over the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi and all parties’ leaders would take oath on the Holy Quran that they would not support terrorist elements. He proposed that the government would launch a swift operation against land grabbers, extortionists and other criminals without any discrimination.Police department should be re-scrutinised and an honest police officer would be deployed with freehand to meet the task.He urged for speedy trial against arrested target killers. To make Karachi an arms-free city, a door-to-door search operation should be launched and checking system should be enhanced at exist and entry points of the city, he demanded.He was of the view that all parties should adopt the rule of “Live and let alive”. Patriotism should be spread by all parties and Fatwas against unjust murder should be distributed among masses.

The SIC leader proposed to form Aman committees, comprised of people from all schools of thoughts. He said that the government should launched an operation against all miscreants with the support of intelligence agencies and police department should also be provided with required equipments, arms and other facilities.Meanwhile, transporters have urged the government to provide them due protection in the wake of current wave of violence. According to a statement of Anjuman-e-Ettehad Bus Malikan Karachi, the officer bearers of transporters’ association including its president, Mohammed Ashraf and Ch Hussain urged the provincial government to take adequate arrangements in this regard.
In sensitive places not only the transporters but also commuters come under attack by unidentified miscreants, they claimed. – Nation
