KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Fazlur Rehman along with DCO Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed and EDO Revenue Roshan Ali Shaikh on Tuesday, formally inaugurated census work of house listing with the marking of Sindh Governor’s House. The first phase of census that commenced yesterday will be performed by April 19.Talking to media representatives on this occasion, the administrator said that census of population and housing holds much importance in the progress of countries as all future planning is based on the data collected through census work. He said: “Like other countries of the world, we also carry out census of population and housing here and the distribution of resources is based on these details.” He said in the first phase of census every housing unit would be marked and listed throughout the country whether it is a katchi abadi or posh area or multi-storey plaza.

Unlike past when all the flats in a multi-storey plaza were given a single marking, every flat in a building will now be marked as a separate housing unit, he said.Fazl said that that arrangement would especially prove beneficial for Karachi where majority of families reside in flats or apartments. He said that a total of 8,500 officials would take part in the census work of house listing and the citizens should fully cooperate with them.DCO Karachi said that separate teams had been formed at town level, which would be monitored by relevant DDO Revenue while District Officer (General) Abid Zawwabi and Additional EDO Revenue Matanat Ali Khan has been assigned the duty of overseeing whole work. – Dailytimes
