QUETTA: The gas and power supply to major parts of Balochistan could not be restored on Wednesday paralysing the routine life of the people who are currently dealing with the freezing temperatures.Unidentified terrorists on Tuesday morning blew up two high-pressure gas pipelines near Dera Murad Jamali depriving nine districts, including the provincial capital, from natural gas.The blasts disrupted supply of nearly 130 million cubic feet gas daily (mmcfd) to Balochistan.Gas supply to all industrial, commercial customers and CNG stations was suspended. Domestic customers were however being provided reduced supplies through the available line pack.

According to the Sui Southern Gas Company official Inayatullah Ismail, gas supply to Balochistan will be restored today (Thursday). “A huge portion of the pipeline was blown up which supplies gas to Quetta and other districts. Teams are working day and night to conclude their work as soon as possible,” he added. The people were forced to use wood for fuel to make food. “There was no gas and electricity available since Tuesday morning,” Atiq-ur-Rehman, a resident of Saryab, told Daily Times. The affected districts include Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Ziarat, Pishin, Sibi, Qila Abduallah, Qila Saifullah and Loralai. The biting cold disrupted normal life, forcing most people to stay indoors. Power supply to 15 districts of the province remained disrupted for the third consecutive day on Wednesday. The Quetta Electric Supply Company’s spokesman, Shafqat Khan said that he was unsure about the restoration of power supply – Dialytimes
