BQM president gunned down, three others wounded in attack

KARACHI: The Bihari Qaumi Movement (BQM) president was gunned down and three others wounded in an attack near Fauji Hotel in Orangi Town, the Pakistan Bazaar police said on Friday.Aftab Malik, 60, was at a paan shop in Sector 15 of the town when unidentified men on motorcycles opened fire on him. Malik was killed on the spot, while Kaleem Akhter, 59, Ayub Kaka, 55, and Waqar Malik, 35, were wounded. Malik’s body and the wounded men were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH).Malik, a retired private bank officer, was a Mohajir Ittehad Tehreek activist until the 1992 operation, after which he had joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. However, he recently founded BQM because of the ethnic violence that had followed the assassination of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s Raza Haider.

After Malik’s murder, tension engulfed Orangi Town, Raees Amrohi Colony, Disco Morr, Toori Bangash and their adjoining areas.MQM man: An MQM activist was injured in the Machhi Miani Market, the Kharadar police said. Naeem Qutubuddin, 30, was at his paan shop when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. He was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). Following the incident, tension engulfed the Kharadar area and shopkeepers closed down their shops due to uncertainty of the situation.Accidents: A Jamshed Town sanitary worker was run over near Numaish Chowrangi, the Jamshed Quarters police said. Nazeer Masih, 27, was working when a speeding vehicle ran him over. His body was shifted to the CHK and later handed over to the heirs.Separately, a man was run over near Malir River, the Memon Goth police said. The unidentified victim was crossing the road when a speeding vehicle ran him over. His body was shifted to ASH and later moved to the Edhi morgue – Dailytimes
